We all suffer the occasional power cut; we may receive notice that there will be a loss of power between certain hours; there will be occasions when power is cut due to a fault without notice though soon restored with little inconvenience however much we may feel inconvenienced.

Living in a town a power cut can strengthen community spirit, instil camaraderie and make new friends.  It is not so simple for those that live in rural or isolated locations where power loss can come at any time of the day, night or year.  Power cuts can be caused by high winds, snow, heavy rain, and flooding, accidents or cable and transformer failure.
